September is National Pain Awareness Month; Non-Invasive Technique Helps Heal Soft-Tissue Injuries New York -- September is National Pain Awareness Month and a unique soft-tissue mobilization technique called the Graston Technique®  breaks down scar tissue and irons out tangled tissue so patients can be pain-free and active again.  The Graston Technique ® (GT) is available at Esprit Wellness, the office of Dr. Aatif Siddiqui, at 2 West 45th Street, Suite 1708 in New York City.   GT uses specially designed stainless steel instruments to detect and treat areas exhibiting scar tissue or chronic inflammation. Clinicians use the instruments with varying shapes to comb over and "catch" on fibrotic tissue, which immediately identifies areas of restriction. Once the tissue has been identified, the instruments break up scar tissue so the body can absorb it. The Technique reduces pain and increases range of motion. It also:
  • Improves diagnostic treatment
  • Increases patient satisfaction by achieving notably better outcomes
  • Speeds rehabilitation and recovery
  • Reduces the need for anti-inflammatory medication
  • Allows the patient to continue to engage in everyday activities.
Dr. Siddiqui, affectionately called Dr. Sid by his patients, explains, “In the healing process, our body attempts to repair muscles, tendons and ligaments with scar tissue, much like the scar that forms on the skin when you have scraped or banged your knee.  Scar tissue tends to be weaker and less flexible than normal, healthy, undamaged tissue.  GT provides patients with a new option in the treatment of musculoskeletal complaints.”  The Graston Technique is used for these conditions:Achilles Tendinitis/osis (ankle pain)Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (wrist pain)Cervical Sprain/Strain (neck pain)Lateral Epicondylitis/osis (tennis elbow)Lumbar Sprain/Strain (back pain) Medial Epicondylitis/osis (golfer's elbow) Patellofemoral Disorders (knee pain) Plantar Fasciitis/osis (foot pain) Rotator Cuff Tendinitis/osis (shoulder pain) Scar TissueShin SplintsTrigger Finger Women’s Health (post-mastectomy and Caesarean scarring) More than 7,500 leading health care providers, more than 32 colleges and universities, major corporations and more than 140 professional/amateur sports organizations in the U.S. and around the world currently use Graston Technique®.  GT clinicians and trainers at these organizations are treating elite athletes, patients and employees every day to get them injury free to function at the highest level. A patient’s first office visit to Esprit Wellness will include a case history, comprehensive examination, and x-rays.  Dr. Sid will develop an individualized treatment based on the patient’s symptoms and x-rays results.  “We combine a lot of the therapies that would be different than other offices.  We look at soft tissue and spinal rehabilitation.  Most offices do one or the other not usually both,” comments Dr. Sid.
